Philippines (part 7)

Hi all,

One thing about the Philippines is that the scenery is amazing. There were several amazing nature shots that I took and here are a few of them:

Philippines (part 5) - Underwater

These pictures were taken at Snake Island of of Honda Bay, which is near Puerto Princesa on Palawan Island in the Philippines. the water was clear, but we arrived late in the day and the sunlight was starting to fade. It was also the first time that I have used my Olympus Mju 1030SW.

Philippines (part 5) - The fight is on!

This little set from the Philippines comes from the Cockerel farm that I visited. I was given the chance to see a few of these birds "practise" fight, which means that they had little gloves on their claws -- like boxing gloves.

It was amazing to see how aggressive these birds are towards each other, it has obviously been bred into them, as North American roosters are not this aggressive. I'm not sure if I would enjoy a real fight, as they can be very bloody -- but the practise rounds were interesting to watch.

International fame in the Philippines

As I'm sure some of you know, I was recently on vacation in the Philippines. The trip was very good and I have a lot of good memories from it.

On the second day, I went on a studio tour that ended with us in a live studio audience for Wowowee. For those that don't know, Wowowee is a very popular show in the Philippines and it is broadcast all over the world to their expat community. It is basically a variety show with various contests in which people can win money.

The first part of the program, the audience dances to the intro music and the "best" dancers are picked for the first contest - "Hep Hep Hooray". So when the show started (after a bit of coaching on what to do) we all started to dance. As the cameramen moved around the audience, they chose people and when it hovered in my area I had a bad feeling that I would be chosen (I kind of sticked out in that crowd). Sure enough I was chosen to compete.

The game itself was pretty straight forward, even if one doesn't speak Filipino, and I made it about half way. The host started to flirt with me a bit, thinking that I would be shy and embarrassed -- but seen as I was already there I decided to ham it up a bit. The best part was when I faked going in for a kiss and she recoiled! It was very funny and a great experience.

On to the pictures:

I have just about finished sorting out the pictures from the trip (I took quite a few) and will have more soon.
