Juventi

Vintage: 2007
Type: Riesling
Country: Germany

This was a wine that my husband (then boyfriend!) picked up at the Spirit of Christmas fair from the Gerhardt Wines stand. Although not a white wine drinker, I was able to convince my husband to buy two bottles of this delicious, mouth-watering Riesling. I recall it tasting slightly fruity and appearing almost colourless, but it I imagined it would taste perfect with Thai stir fries or green curries. I was correct! We still have the other bottle left, which will be opended on a warm spring evening, 2010.

Warburn Estate Premium Reserve

Vintage: 2007
Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Country: Australia

This bottle was very good. Great aroma and complexity with a fresh and bold taste. Recommended.

Porcupine Ridge

Vintage: 2007
Type: Syrah
Country: South Africa - Cape of Good Hope

I was quite disappointed with this wine. Apparently a medal winner in this years IWC, I was certainly expecting more from it. I found it harsh and acidic, which will perhaps mellow with age. Stay away for now, perhaps revisit in a few years.

More info Here.

Georges du Boeuf - 2007

Vintage: 2007
Type: Fleurie
Country: France - Beaujolais

A good drinks wine, great with food. As Fleuries go, this one is very popular, probably because it's quite easy to drink. This vintage doesn't disappoint, though the bottle could probably sit a bit longer before drinking. Great with chicken or turkey.

Despres - Domain du Niagara

Vintage: 2007
Type: Fleurie
Country: France - Beaujolais

DESCRIPTION
This is a very different Fleurie, if you are used to drinking Georges Duoeuf's Fleuries. This wine is robust and full-bodied. The producer recommends that the bottle be kept a year or two in order to fully reveal the wine's intense flavours of blackcurrants and wild blackberries.

Gruss - Gewurztraminer

Vintage: 2007
Type: Gewurztraminer
Country: France - Alsace

This is young wine with a bright yellow colour. When swishing it around the glass, one notices very short legs, meaning that it lower in alcoholic content. Its nose has notes of elderflower and exotic fruit. When tasting the wine, one detects something flowery and also lychee fruit. The consistency of the wine is somewhat thick but not heavy. This is a crisp wine due to its acidity. This bottle can be laid down on rack for some time because it will take some time to mature.

Clos de los Siete

Vintage: 2007
Type: Blend
Country: Argentina

What is this a blend of? Quite a lot: Malbec, Merlot Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon. I've recently tried a few blends from the new world, and if done properly they are exquisite. This one is done well. I enjoyed all aspects of this wine, fruity flavours and oakey finish, great colour and legs. Recommended.

Madregale

Vintage: 2007
Type: Rosso
Country: Italy

This was a free bottle of wine that was given to me by a local butcher. It is an OK drinking wine, as expected. Nothing special, but if you can find it cheap then go for it.

Casillero del Diablo Shiraz

Vintage: 2007
Type: Shiraz
Country: Chile

Casillero del Diablo is a safe wine. Reasonably cheap (though the Cabernet is now quite expensive now that it has been recognised), this winery is reliable to produce a decent wine. The shiraz follows this trend, good flavour, good colour and good taste. I recommend it if you can find it for a good price.

Also the crest is pretty cool.

Groote Kaap

Vintage: 2007
Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Country: South Africa - Western Cape

Another good wine from South Africa. The colour was very dark, and the wine itself was quite fruity with a hint of oak. Big and bold and good.

More info here.

Curico Valley

Vintage: 2007
Type: Shiraz
Country: Chile

This fair trade wine was a gift for Christmas and it was not too bad. It was in a gift pack, which normally means to be wary, but it is from M&S so not to worry. I found it pleasant and easy to drink. Perfect with a meal.

La Serre

Vintage: 2007
Type: Merlot
Country: France

This wine was served at a function, and I decided to do a quick rating. Not very good overall, but easy to drink and if it was served again I would have some.

The Waxed Bat

Vintage: 2007
Type: Shiraz Petit Verdot
Country: Argentina - Mendoza

I so wanted to like this wine. To start off, the descriptions of this wine are great. Secondly, the wine itself looks purple when it is poured. The smell is great, unfortunately the taste lets you down. I found it harsh to drink and a major let-down.

There are a couple of more bottles left, so I think I will give it another chance in a couple of years.

El Bombero

Vintage: 2007
Type: Carinena
Country: Spain

Apparently, this is one of the UK's best sellers. The only way I can explain this is that it is a whopping %15. The wine itself, after having a significant time to breathe, is nothing special. I would say that this is an easy drinking wine, but at %15 it will drop you on your ass if you're not careful. Worth a try, but nothing more.

El Beso

Vintage: 2007
Type: Red
Country: Spain - Valencia

This is a sweet red wine, and I'm not a fan of sweet red wines (unless it is a port). For me, there was no flavour other than the sweet and I was happy to let Eleanor finish the bottle (over the next few days) whilst I had some beer and scotch.

This is a very good drinking wine. Great flavours and quite resonably priced. Those Aussies have done it again!

Las Casas

Vintage: 2007
Type: Cabernet Sauvignon
Country: Chile - Maule Valley

I liked this wine, though I suspect that it needs a bit more age on it before it really shows what it can do. It will certainly need a while to breath if you try it now. You can find more about it here

Willy Willy

Vintage: 2007

Country: Australia - New South Wales

An OK wine, that I expected more from it, but perhaps the 2006 vintage was better. Good Shiraz, not great. You can find more about it here
